REAL Flight Lesson in a SEA Plane! (The Amphibious Legend Cub)
how do get really good at something? practice and REPETITION? in a small single engine trainer if you make all your routine approaches power off you got very good at it. that's why many CFI's are good at it. this advice is terrible and contributes to typical incompetence of the pilot community. if your engine is still running why on earth would it be any more dangerous to make a power off approach if there is no reason not to?
Might be good to watch the video all the way through. It explains that in detail
This is a very good video and thank you for making it. I believe there is one error early on however. A windmilling prop causes MORE drag than a stationary prop, and therefore your glide distance is actually longer if the prop stops completely.
what is that e6b website you use?
Those evil instructors!
Lol
From Beginner to Excellence Complete #History
FYI…m’aider is pronounced “may day”…not may der. Not a criticism…I’m not a teacher of any sort…and I’m barely fluent in any language 😂 …but thought I’d share in case it’s helpful.
Thanks for this. I had no clue
What mount do you use for the outside view
This video is helping me understand things with so much ease!! I have it on repeat! Thank you so much!
Awesome! You’re welcome!
The story of icarus apply to pilots alot eh, fly to high toward the sun and you will lose your wing and die 💀💀
Lol. Something like that
now we really know why airline are so strict with weight because it center of lift and those airplane plane are massive so imagine that weight.
Exactly
Thank you so much for all you do. Your videos are the difference between me pushing forward and giving up!
Awesome! So glad I could help
Nice video format, very nice instruction! Cheers from France
Thanks! Beautiful country! Bet the flying is awesome there
so impressive,fun to learn!Thanks a lot my teacher🤩
No problem!
Is there an app that helps you train your brain to pick out key words and repeat back. I just started tower operations and I struggle to repeat back the right thing.
I think there are a couple. I’ve never used any though
@@FreePilotTraining Alright no worries but thank you!
At 35:00 I didn't understand how to get the magnetic heading. How do I read that line you doted?
i do not understand why nobody seems to think you need to be able to fly the airplane with precision in ground effect just above the runway to do good landings with the aircraft under total control. so use aileron to hold the centerline, opposite rudder to counteract the aileron input, and a combination of pitch and power to hold the aircraft in a level attitude in ground effect just above the runway. once you can do this good landings follow because now you have learned how to use your right hand on the throttle for a whole new dimension of control that most pilots don't learn for years if ever. now you can put the airplane on the ground under complete control in challenging winds and xwinds. how would you ever expect to put the plane on the ground under control if you can't keep it over the centerline with the longitudinal axis aligned with the runway?
You can definitely do it. That’s why we practice “slow flight”
@@FreePilotTraining totally unrelated to what i'm referring to. how many times have you done this with strudents? didn't think so
Why did the FAA pick 6 6 6! 🤣
Lol
@@FreePilotTraining Where you at? M n old dog pilot want to come fly with you! So thankful your a great teacher! All those new young eagles need to be looked after! Keep up the good work! Throttle on Pilot! 👍Brian
Just a suggestion, if you are having trouble with Radio Calls, you and your instructor can call each other cell phone and practice that way.
Love that. Great tip
Apologies for jumping the gun on the first video I saw. I’m glad I came back bc the last 5 or 6 videos I’ve seen have been very informative. 0 crash jokes but 100% useful and helpful knowledge! Thank you!
No problem. I know I can be a little crass sometimes. It’s probably from being in the military for over 15 years. Hope to see you around more on the channel!
Listening to your ground school playlist on my long drives across the Midwest. 9 years in b2b sales, married two kids. I need to start flight lessons
Thank you for all of your content!!
No problem!
Awesome! Go for it! It’s a blast!
@Freepilottraining Where did you find the winds aloft chart???
13:05, it's sort of like when you drive with a car's manual clutch part way in! not that you should do that. I used to do that to start up hills in 2nd gear lol
Lol. You used to be able to start manuals without the clutch. That’s how people ended up in the grocery store with their vehicles
Question, what if I wanted to work with the airline to just deliver cargo?
Would i need a airline rated certificate
You need a commercial certificate at least. Most operations require an ATP
You HAVE to use pitch for speed and power for altitude. Otherwise, when you have an engine failure you will DIE. If you teach a student to maintain speed with power, and they lose power, they will not automatically know how to avoid stall-spin. Geddit?
100% fact. Totally agree
Excellent video Josh. Its crazy to see all the taxiways and runway completely covered in snow. Definitely a whole new world for flying compared to here. It sure looked like a beautiful day for flying. I hope you and your family are doing well. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friend 🇺🇸🛩️
Thanks Kevin! We’re doing great!
@@FreePilotTraining that's great to hear my friend. 🇺🇸🛩️
5:03 so if I hover in a heli 12 hours I'd get to the other side of the world?
Lol
So Cool
Thanks!
Fantastic mate! Are you showing any other lessons with your trainee? I'm currently doing Aeronautical Radio Operator Course here in Australia with @ausflight and could understand the radio equipment and procedures on your lesson here much better! Greetings from Gold Coast/Tweed Heads Australia and thanks again! 🤙🛩️🏄🌴🌅
I haven’t made any more with him, but I have a handful of other ones with another student. I’d like to take a student all the way through on a series at some point.
That reminds me of how my second lesson went.
1:56 or yellow on black, that’s where you’re at.
Great Instructor!
Thank you!
Thanks!
No problem!
Rain will never be the same again! Thank you and your stellar sense of humour, this is officially my fave video lesson! 😎👍
Lol, awesome! I hope to include lots more humor. It really helps everyone remember better
@@FreePilotTraining I fully agree! It's a total WIN-WIN. Looking forward to what is to come and thanks again for all you do!!
I typically enjoy your videos but do you really think this is appropriate for a students 2nd lesson
Actually, it’s a requirement before you can solo. It’s not quite as bad as the video makes it seem. I’ve taken some students in some sketchy crosswinds lol
I have a question. I had a student who was hours from finishing his private. He got very stressed at his job and went on antidepressants. He was cleared once, but the whole 2ed time your out. He did have a medical, but now be will not be able to get his medical. Would be be able to finish his private with a basic med. I think he would because he did have a medical and it was not revoked.
I would have to do some more digging, but I believe so
You should make a video with an actual altimeter to better illustrate what you mean about adjusting it properly. Im not really understanding why the altimeter would read zero.
I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks!
Top Notch Traing! Thanks! You are helping pilots be safer and better trained! I'm all thumbs so you get 10!
Thanks! 😆 made me chuckle
Watching this is good refamiliarization to help me be less anxious about returning to flying, it's been 10 years!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Same! It's been 20 for me!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This course is great to watch after reading Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, and Airplane Flying Handbook. I felt it really helped to make the information more clear and usable. I would recommend moving the videos about medical and license types ahead in the order. Also the video about runway signs and layout sooner (it would help add context throughout the series). Thank you again, I really appreciate you making meaningful content available to everyone.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Pretty sure i came up with a great way to remember and understand skids and slips with zero thinking necessary. When you think skids, think tokyo drift (if you like fast and furious) or just think of cars drifting. And then slips is just the opposite. For slips think of a toy boat going down a drain hole butt end first. Its rotating around a fixed point but the nose is facing away from the turn and the but is going towards it. But i think slips dont have to be explain too much when you know its the opposite orientation to a skid
Love it!
My training place doesnt have ground schol so this will be very helpful.
Awesome!
11:50-13:36 you’re an awesome CFI, I wish I had a CFI had instructions like yours.
Thanks! That means a lot!
It is wrong
good to see you up here, thanks for all your help, got my ppl checkride this month. Theres cheap rentals at the aero club on base if thats your thing.
Thanks! I actually signed up to instruct on base. I took all the tests and my checkout was canceled 4x because of stupid rules or reasons that made no sense. I figured it wasn’t meant to be at that point. Currently on orders, so I’ve been too busy to fly the last couple months. Hopefully that will change soon
Great episode
Thanks!
Are you still in alaska? I train at Merrill and love to take a pic with you if you’re still here
